Yikes...

For some reason I feel the need to regress and be a romantic school girl for a moment or too. Please bear with me as I share a fear I hold. I was doing some cleaning and sorting today and while I was engaged in this pursute I watched the Anne of Avonlee videos. As I watched I had two feelings: #1 I of course fleetingly pondered if there really was love out there like Gilberts or if it was just some wonderful fantsy. But the more important concern I had was regarding Miss Brook, the spinster principle of the girls acadeny where Anne goes to teach. It has occured to me in watching this and working with spinster nurses, that if my life leads me to pursue medician as either a nurse or doctor what does that mean? Will I too find myself as a lonely spinster woman unable to rise beyond my singleness? Today I would say with a resounding "No, I would never become like them. I wouldn't ever change from my contented state as I am now." but I wonder and I guess worry just a little that maybe I am not as contented or strong as I think I am. So please my dear friends if in the coming years you ever see me becoming like Miss Brook please, please bring me to a halt! I couldn't bear to think of myself becoming a sour faced old spinster with my hair pulled back, only finding fullfillment in issuing orders and being cross. It's not the spinster part that scares me it the persona that goes with it...Just commit to being my true friends who won't let me walk that path and I shall be content!

Alright, I am back to reality now! Much cleaning still to do so I will end for now!

Just a few thoughts

I haven't posted any thing much lately and this might not prove to be that interesting either but I just thought I would post a few words about recent happenings. Today I am taking Nicki and one of her friends over to Leavenworth to camp for the night. I think we will catch a game of mini golf while we are there, do some window shopping, we might stop in Arlington and visit the Kangaroo farm and I am planning a visit to the Liberty Orchards candy factory tomorrow as well. They make the Applet and Cotlets there in Cashmere which is fairly near Leavenworth so I am excited about that. I am sure the girls but they will like the free samples in the tasting room!

Last week was the fair and I went twice, well sort of 3 times. I went Thurs. afternoon for a few hours by myself to look around and then was back in the evening with Nicki and her cousin Brittany. The things some of us do for kids never ceases to amaze me. Nicki was not going to go on any rides beyond the Ferris Wheel but Brittany who is 12 wanted to go on some others that were beyond Nicki's comfort level. I still shake my head to think that I went on the Moonraker, the Typhoon, and the Orbiter. I did make Nicki go with us on the Tornado and she enjoyed that one. As I was watching the ground rush towards me, we were right in the front seat on the Moonraker, I was thinking, "What in the world am I doing here, this is not natural, what was I thinking, or not as the case may be???" I still don't know if I would call it fun. I could hardly walk when I got out of that one. I really liked the Tornado and Orbiter but those don't involve upside down action. You have to understand that the most daring rides I have ever been on previously were the YoYo and the Viking boat that used to be at the fair many years ago. But Brittany so wanted to go and she didn't want to go alone so I found myself strapped in hurtaling face first towards the ground. Crazy times...I also stopped in after work on Sat. night to meet up with a few people for an hour which was very interesting, quite entertaining in some regards and puzzeling in others, mainly because I think I missed some things that had happened earlier in the day.

A couple of weekends ago I had the privilage of attending a wedding, the only one I have been to this year, and I must say it was a very nice experience and a blessing in some regards. I really appreciated some of the things that the Pastor said during his talk. The one that really struck me was regarding the Proverbs 31 woman. I have been reading a book about her and talking to a friend about this topic recently too so it was very timely. When he was talking to the bride he made the point that she had the opportunity to grow into being the Proverbs 31 woman. I have guess I hadn't thought it that way. I have thought about how I am not that woman yet so I am not fit to be married but he made that point that the Proverbs 31 woman is older, she is married, she children, she has grown in wisdom and beauty through experience. She is not a young woman just starting out. That was a great blessing to me and gives me much encouragement to keep pressing forward and someday, Lord willing I can look back and see all the opportunities and experiences I have had along the way that have helped to shape me into something at least close to her. I do not need to dispare because I am not her yet, I have some years to go.

The mother of one of my best friends just recently spent 2 weeks in Harborview Hospital after having surgery because of bleeding in her brain but she is home now and recovering. She has many things to work through considering her brain injury but she is up and about and Praise the Lord she is alive which might not have been the case had she suffered a full anurism rather than just seeping from the vein. My friend and her husband and baby came out for a couple of weeks from NY and it was a good opportunity to get to see her again, sooner rather than later! I spent a few hours with baby, she is 5mo., one afternoon so Jen could get somethings done and that was really fun. I noticed something too about babys and their accessories while I had her. If you want to get faster service, you want people to stop for you on the street so you can cross, etc. all you need is a baby pram. At first I couldn't figure out why they were stopped and sitting there if they weren't going to turn at the cross street. Then I figured out they were waiting for me to cross! Duh. LOL Next time I want to walk around town and not have to worry about dashing across streets I might just have to borrow a pram, stick my cat in and go! ha, ha...I probably wouldn't but it might be fun to try.

On a side note if you any of you out there reading this eat hot dogs you might want to reconsider or even try this experiment at home. Upon cleaning out the refigerator upstairs, not ours, a hot dog was discovered that had been in there for a bit too long. Mind you it hadn't ever been out of the fridge for long but it just hadn't gotten eaten. As it was headed towards the garbage some movement was noted in the package and, yes I am not kidding, it was now home to at least a dozen maggots. This means that the eggs must have been in the meat already it just took longer for them to develop because of the cold temps in the fridge. We hear about things in hot dogs and other processed meats and I am quite inclined to believe that they are not actually fit for human consumption. I think it would interesting to try this again and see how long it actually takes and if different brands have higher rates of contamination. Oh well since I don't eat them in the first place I probably won't get to this research any time soon. Still think it would intesting to see!

Well other than painting Nicki's room a couple of weeks ago, what an adventure that was, canning a bunch of apple sauce, helping friends put in hay a couple of afternoons, and playing a lot of piano not much else interesting has happened lately. Time sure flies when I sit down to play. The other day I sat down to play and almost 3 hrs. later I figured I had better check the clock. I was shocked to realize how much time had passed. I guess not playing for 8 years has left me with much to rediscover. I hope to have something interesting about our little jaunt to Leavenworth but till then, adios amigos!
